Open Borders is a music, arts and digital media extravaganza filling a 40,000 square foot performance space in a vacant Borders bookstore in Thousand Oaks, California, putting on at least 4 shows per week and daily gallery and performance art all summer long. All profits will support multiple 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations and charitable causes, such as teen suicide and car crash prevention, Teen Line, The Trevor Project, SEVA, CAUSE, and The Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

JETHRO TULL Celebrates AQUALUNG's 40th Anniversary With A North American Tour

In celebration of the park bench, dribbly-nosed voyeur's 40th Anniversary, Ian Anderson returns to the USA with his band Jethro Tull, starting June 8 in Denver, CO and ending on the 27 in Chicago, IL.
The group features longtime members Ian Anderson (flute, vocals, acoustic guitar) and Martin Barre (guitars), Doane Perry (drums), as well as David Goodier (bass) and pianist John O'Hara. The latter two joined in 2006 after working with Ian on some of his solo projects.
The group will be performing the Aqualung album in its entirety plus a range of their other favorites from the lat 42 years. Critics dubbed AQUALUNG ?a concept album,? particularly for Ian's critical, skeptical views of organized religion, mostly on side B ("My God," "Hymn 43"). Anderson has disputed - almost resented - the assessment seeing the record as "just a bunch of songs." This led the band to give the critics a full-blown concept album with the following studio release THICK AS A BRICK which topped the Billboard charts in 1972.
On AQUALUNG, the group explores the struggles of the less fortunate in our society (e.g., "Aqualung," "Cross-Eyed Mary," "Up to Me"). Teenage angst and formal education difficulties (e.g., "Wind Up") are explored, and Ian returns to his parental themes with "Cheap Day Return," a tune encompassing Anderson's feelings while traveling North on the train to visit his sick father. "Locomotive Breath" touches on the issues of globalization, population expansion and runaway economics. Sound familiar?
Formed in 1968, Jethro Tull released its first album THIS WAS late in that year and followed up in 1969 with STAND UP. In the 1970s, the group was one of the most successful live performing acts on the world stage, rivaling Zeppelin, Elton John and even the Rolling Stones. Surprising, really, for a group whose more sophisticated and evolved stylistic extravagance was far from the Pop and Rock norm of that era.
With now some 30-odd albums to their credit and sales totaling more than 50 million, the apparently un-commercial Tull continues to perform over a 100 concerts per year with its rich variety and depth of expression, wherever fans, young and old, want to hear Rock, Folk, Jazz and Classical-inspired music. Music for boys in long trousers and girls with brains.
In 2011, Tull will tour in Australia, Ireland, and Germany. And Ian will perform solo shows in Germany, Spain, Cyprus, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Panama, Mexico, Czech Republic, the UK, Sweden, Denmark and Finland finishing with his customary charity Christmas concerts at three UK cathedrals.
In 2006, Ian was awarded a Doctorate in Literature from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, the Ivor Novello Award for International Achievement in Music and, in the New Years Honours List 2008, an MBE for services to music. In 2012, he expects to be awarded the Smithsonian Medal of Honor for smelling OK for someone his age and having ears still in proportion to the rest of his head. His bladder remains elastic and his prostate the size of a pinhead.

10-9-09 Chelsea Girls, Nashville Pussy, Reverend Horton Heat, and MOTORHEAD Rock the House at Club Nokia in L.A.!!
Anyone lucky enough to attend the performance caught a 4 Band onslaught of hard rocking ear piercing headbanging Rock and Roll. Chelsea Girls opened up the show with a powerful set of killer covers to the delight of the packed house. Nashville Pussy stepped up and blew the crowd away with their southern flavored distortion guitar rocking show. Next came the Psycho Rockabilly style of Reverend Horton Heat who definitely got the house rocking and the mosh pit moving. Finally, Motorhead took the well heated stage and proceeded to level the house with a set of classic tunes and some newer material including a surprise acoustic version of Whorehouse Blues. As the floor turned into a war zone with fans going off to the sounds of these legendary Road Warriors, MOTORHEAD bombed the crowd with intense Drums courtesy of Mikkey Dee, Shredding Guitar from Phil Campbell and full frontal assault Bass lines topped off with growling vocals only available from one Lemmy Kilmeister. This show was one for the history books!!

Ace appeared in advance of the launch of his first new album in 20 years, Anomaly!! He was interviewed by Grammy Museum Executive Director Robert Santelli and discussed the production of Anomaly in detail. In addition, he took questions from fans and signed copies of Anomaly prior to the on sale date of 9-15-09. 8/14/09 LiveFromThePit had the incredible opportunity to see American Music legend Dickey Betts and his Band Great Southern on 8/16/09 at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills CA. Dickey delivered the goods like only he can playing hits from his solo material as well as classic Allman Brothers tunes!!!! His Band is killer and includes his son Duane and renowned player/instructor Andy Aledort on Guitar. With bad ass bassist Pedro Arevalo, Drummers James Varnado and Frankie Lombardi and Key boardist Mike Kach laying the foundation, Dickey floored the crowd with amazing improvisational guitar work. LiveFromThePit attended Metal Masters on August 30, 2008 at the Glen Helen Pavilion in Southern California. This show was the heaviest of Metal Shows yet to blaze accross the U.S. and featured Judas Priest, Heaven & Hell, Motorhead and Testament!!!
Metal Masters 8/30/08 Preliminary Review
It was a hot 95 degrees in Devore California as we pulled into the massive Glen Helen Pavilion and things would only get hotter. After checking out the venue and taking our seats, the venue began to shake as Metal Warriors Testamant took the stage. Testament brought it to So Cal with excellent energy, killer sound and a powerful performance. Immediately a Mosh Pit formed in front of the stage but the GA Lawn was absolutely going off the handle as Testament plowed through their set bringing classic tunes and new material from their latest album "The Formation of Damnation". The band was incredibly tight and the vocals were right on. Clearly the guys were having a blast on stage and the crowd was as well. The set ended all to soon as Testament left the stage with the audience screaming for more. We didn't have to wait long though because the next sound we heard was the blazing distortion of a vintage Rickenbacker Bass blasting from a huge wall of Marshall Stacks signaling the beginning of the Motorhead Set. 6/15/08: Ted Nugent Review at the House of Blues in Hollywood CA: The Nuge was in Prime form last nite!!! After quickly tearing down the House, Uncle Ted lit a massive fire and proceeded to BBQ the crowd with a killer selection of songs and a righteous performance to match it. His vocals were powerful, his guitar tone was incredible, his attitude was classic Ted Red White and Blue, and his commentary was both funny and prolific. This is definately one of the hottest shows of the Summer and is a MUST SEE!!! LiveFromThePit also attended the show on 6/20/08 at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills CA and it was also incredible with a special guest appearance by Derek St. Holmes.
